We exist to conquer the most common birth defect.

Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in the United States and worldwide. 1 in 100 people are diagnosed with CHD and nearly 40,000 babies will be born with CHD in the U.S. this year. Estimates suggest there are more adults living with CHD than children, upwards of 1.5 million.

Originally founded as the Pediatric Congenital Heart Association in 2013, we quickly filled a niche as the voice of the congenital heart patient and family. We are changing both the national landscape and empowering patients and families in their local communities. In 2020, to better reflect our efforts in being more inclusive both culturally and across the lifespan, we changed our name to Conquering CHD.

We engage, listen, learn, and act. We create visibility and empower all impacted by CHD.

Our work fights for all congenital heart disease patients and their families, from prenatal diagnosis through adulthood and those families who have lost loved ones. Patients and families representing all states, races, ethnicities, ages, and with all types of CHD are part of our organization.

We accomplish this through awareness, community, knowledge, and research.

Beginning as a grassroots organization, we have built a robust network of collaborations – patients, family members, lawmakers, medical providers, scientists and media.

“Conquering CHD holds tremendous meaning and importance in my life. As a patient, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to advocate for patients and families like my own. As a physician, both the scientific and patient-centered research ambitions promise to shape my current and future practice. Conquering CHD serves as an agent of change for all of us.”

-Joseph Burns, MD, Patient and Provider

As patients and families ourselves, we know first-hand the importance of timely information in making decisions, support during difficult times, and the desire to spread as much awareness as possible. Our collective experience informs our evolving projects and enables us to connect with our broader community, responding quickly to the area of greatest need.

Conquering CHD serves as a beacon of hope for CHD patients and families and we invite you to join us in the fight against the most common birth defect. Together, we are #ConqueringCHD!
